What to Do in Case of an Accident or Breakdown

In case of an accident

1. Make sure everyone is safe. If anyone is injured or there is any danger, call the emergency number 112 immediately.
2. Secure the scene. Turn on the hazard lights and, if possible, move the vehicle out of the way of traffic.
3. Call the police (112) if anyone is injured, if the other party will not cooperate, or if you are unsure what to do.
4. Document everything. Take photos of the vehicles, the damage and the surroundings, and write down the other party's name, phone number, license plate and insurance company.
5. Fill in an accident report together with the other party, if another vehicle is involved.
6. Notify SIXT as soon as possible at cs@sixt.is and send us the photos and the accident report – or use the online damage report form.

If the vehicle can't be driven after the accident, contact 24 Road Assistance as described below.

Roadside assistance (24 Road Assistance)

In the event of a breakdown or damage during the rental period, SIXT Iceland relies on the independent roadside assistance provider 24 Road Assistance. The renter is responsible for contacting 24 Road Assistance directly.

Payment for services

All roadside assistance services must be paid by the renter directly to 24 Road Assistance at the time of service. This applies in all cases, including when the renter's protection package covers roadside assistance.

Refunds

If your protection package covers roadside assistance, or if the incident was caused by a mechanical malfunction of the rental vehicle, send the receipt(s) and any related documents through the online refund form, or by email to cs@sixt.is. SIXT Iceland will review the documents and, if coverage applies, confirm to 24 Road Assistance that you are entitled to a refund. The refund is then issued by 24 Road Assistance.

Acknowledgment

By entering into a rental agreement with SIXT Iceland, the renter agrees to these roadside assistance terms and accepts that 24 Road Assistance is an independent service provider whose services, fees and refunds follow its own procedures.
