Parking – Akureyri

In Akureyri, the main town in North Iceland, parking in the town center is paid, while most parking on the outskirts is free.

The town center has two paid parking zones, P1 and P2, shown on the map below.

Some streets in the zones also have time-limited parking spaces – check the street signs for the maximum time allowed.

Prices and paid parking hours

Current prices and hours for each zone are published by the town of Akureyri: Akureyri parking (bifreidastaedasjodur.akureyri.is).

How to pay

• At the pay stations in the town center,
• In the Parka or EasyPark app, or
• Online on the Akureyri parking website.

Green parking spaces are reserved for vehicles running only on clean energy (e.g. electric cars). Within the paid zones, they are also paid.

Parking fines

Unpaid or insufficiently paid parking, and illegal parking, result in a fine. Fines are sent to SIXT as the vehicle owner and passed on to you with a handling fee – see Parking, tolls and fines in Iceland.
