Parking - Reykjavík City Center

Parking citations

There are two categories of parking citations. Firstly, additional parking fees are applied to vehicles where paid parking has not been fulfilled or where insufficient time has been paid for (extra parking tariff). Secondly, parking violations charges are imposed on vehicles that have been unlawfully parked (parking violation charges).

  • The extra parking tariff fee amount to 4.500.- ISK and is commonly known as a parking meter citation.
  • The parking violation charges is 10.000.- ISK. This fee is applied to a vehicle when it is stopped or parked under a prohibition sign, on a sidewalk, on a pedestrian street, too close to a pedestrian crossing, or in other situation where parking is prohibited.
  • A parking violation fee of 20.000.- ISK is applicable to vehicles stopped or parked in a parking space designated for people with reduced mobility without a valid parking card.

Parking fees can vary depending on the location. Reykjavík City Center is divided into four tariff zones: P1, P2, P3 and P4, each with different pricing and tariff periods. You can pay for parking using parking meters or by registering your vehicle in a payment app of your choice, we highly recommend downloading the Parka app if you choose to pay online.

  • Pink and Red (zone P1) - There are the priciest parking areas, with an hourly rate of 600.- ISK. Parking per spot is at maximum 3 hours.
  • Blue (zone P2) - Hourly rate of 220.- ISK.
