Parking – Reykjavík City Center
Reykjavík city center is divided into four paid parking zones, P1–P4, each with its own price and hours. Outside these hours, parking in the zones is free unless signs say otherwise.

How to pay
- At the parking meters in the zone, or
- In a parking app such as Parka or EasyPark. We recommend downloading one before your trip.
Parking garages – closed at night
The city's parking garages in the center – Stjörnuport, Vitatorg, Kolaportið, City Hall (Ráðhúsið), Traðarkot, Vesturgata and Bergstaðir – are open daily 07:00–24:00 and closed from midnight to 07:00. Before you park in a garage, check the opening hours on the sign at the entrance.
- Collect the car before midnight. If the garage closes with the car inside, you may not be able to get it out until 07:00 the next morning.
- If your car is locked in and SIXT has to retrieve it, a fee of EUR 300 is charged to your rental. You are also responsible for any costs from the garage operator.
- If it happens by mistake, you can try paying for parking in the EasyPark app after closing to get a PIN code for the panel by the pedestrian door. This doesn't always work, for example if the camera didn't read the license plate when you drove in.
Tip: Need to park overnight? Harpa's car park by the harbor is open 24 hours a day. Many hotels also offer parking – ask at your hotel.
Parking fines
- Extra parking fee (not paid, or not enough time paid): 4,500 ISK.
- Parking violation (e.g. under a no-parking sign, on a sidewalk, on a pedestrian street or too close to a crossing): 10,000 ISK.
- Parking in a disabled space without a valid parking card: 20,000 ISK.
